Conservation Learning Visits!

We're redeveloping our Conservation Learning programme to align with the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum, with new education sessions for Years 0-10 launching from January 2027. There are no changes to our Year 11-13 education sessions, and we plan to revisit these in 2028.

Developed in consultation with our teaching community, the new programme will offer more hands-on, interactive learning experiences that connect ākonga with te taiao through authentic conservation, science and animal care contexts. Students will investigate real-world conservation challenges, engage with case studies, understand the principles of kaitiakitanga, and explore wildlife conservation in meaningful ways.

Bookings for 2027 are now open. Secure your preferred dates now, with full programme details to be released during Terms 3 and 4. Please note that if you pick a session for Years 0-10, we will be in touch at the end of 2026 with the new 2027 programme details and to confirm which session would best suit your students.

Thank you for your interest in our Conservation Learning sessions. We are nearly fully booked out for 2026, so if there isn't a date that works for you we recommend booking a self-guided session and attending our free keeper talks for more information on how we care for and enrich the lives of animals at the Zoo. We would love to welcome you to our new and refreshed education sessions from January 2027 - and bookings are open now.

Experience Conservation Learning at Auckland Zoo

What’s a great way for kids to learn about adaptations? Seeing a giraffe up close, of course! We have Zoo sessions that suit a wide range of topics, centered around wildlife, people and the environment – and it’s all linked to the New Zealand curriculum.

Inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

Here at Auckland Zoo we aim to lead by example, with optimism, with expertise and with passion. By connecting today's tamariki with wildlife, nature, and conservation, we can foster passion and empathy for wildlife and wild places.

Our education programme has been developed with the latest wildlife conservation science in mind. We have also drawn on a wealth of education experience within the team to ensure learning experiences are engaging and informative – inspiring informed action from our younger citizens.
